3.4 Servers, domains and keys for a client
Servers, domains and API keys belong to the business. In a client's business you can't open them from your Builder area: they stay with the owner, like their money.
The owner buys and owns
- The server, on their own login and wallet. Suggest Off-server backup and keep auto-renew on.
- The domain, on their own login. Keep auto-renew on.
- The API keys, made in their own Developer tools or Lynk Pay → Developers.
How you work on their server
- Sit with the owner. They open Servers → Server access → Show login on their login.
- While they watch, log in and make your own user (Module 1, item 1.4), with your SSH key. Never use their root password from your own laptop again after that.
- Do the work as your user. Take a backup before big changes.
- At handover, remove your user (
sudo deluser --remove-home <you>) unless they keep you as their monthly builder, and show them Controls → New password so only they know root's password.
Keys: the owner creates them, and pastes them straight into the server file with you. A key never goes through your phone or chat.
Tell the owner, in plain words
- The server is a monthly bill from your Lynk wallet. If it isn't paid, it stops after 3 days and is deleted after 14 more.
- The domain is a yearly bill. If it lapses, your website and email stop.
- Lynk watches the server every minute and backs it up every day. If you get an SMS about a problem, call me.
